Sheikh family members’ names removed from 13 government universities

Interim Government Renames 13 Universities Named After Mujib Family

Dhaka, Bangladesh – The interim government has taken a significant step, renaming 13 universities previously named after members of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman family. This decision was announced by Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor for Youth and Sports and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, on his official Facebook page.

The renamed universities include:

  • Netrokona University: Previously Sheikh Hasina University
  • Kishoreganj University: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University
  • Naogaon University: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University
  • Meherpur University: Previously Mujibnagar University
  • Gazipur Agricultural University: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University
  • Shariatpur Agricultural University: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Shariatpur Agricultural University
  • Bangladesh Digital University: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh
  • Jamalpur Science and Technology University: Previously Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib Science and Technology University
  • Pirojpur Science and Technology University: Previously Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib Science and Technology University
  • Narayanganj Science and Technology University: Previously Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University
  • Gopalganj Science and Technology University: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University
  • Maritime University Bangladesh: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University
  • Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh: Previously Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University

This move comes amidst a series of actions by the interim government aimed at revising policies and institutions following the July Uprising.
